These are the first characters of my first blog.
We're going to try to have some fun here. I'll key my thoughts into this window where you can see them.
You can respond, if you care to.
We'll write about automobiles, motors, racing, driving, architecture, industrial design, gizmos, travel, photography, slotcars, music and whatever else comes up.
I can't remember a time when sportscar racing in America was in worse shape. I can remember feeling those same thoughts in the late 60s when the FIA modified the rules governing the design of sportscars effectively banning the American designs from Ford and Chaparral. Worried we were for the prospects of the future. Then Porsche created the 917 and Ferrari the 512 and a golden era in sportscar racing ensued.
I don't see the same caliber of rivalry developing in contemporary racing. With the ALMS and GARRA going through a poor imitation of the CART/IRL schism, it is difficult to discern sportscar racing's future. The ALMS has yet to develop significant traction in the minds of American racing fans. Sure, they can still claim the fringe of a group of foreign car fans, but for some reason they haven't been able to grow their base. On the other side I have very little faith in the long term for GARRA's plan and commitment, but they have inertia from leveraging their relationship with NASCAR.
There was a great deal of participation in the GARRA Daytona tests and the Rolex 24. We'll see what develops this season.
